Radiological Study on the Cranio-Sellar Index in the Normal Korean

Abstract
The anteroposterior diameter of the sella turcica and that of the skull were measured in 19 normal infants, 68 normal children, 61 normal adolescents, and 25 normal adults. The author also studied the cranio-sellar index in each group. The results thus obtained could be summarized as follows:
1. The mean cranio-sellar index of normal Korean infants (under 1 year old) was 4.6¡¾0.7, and the
index in this age group ranged from 3. 1 to 5.8., the children (from 2 to 10 years old) was 5.3¡¾1.0
with an index range from 3.0 to 7. 3., the adolescents (from i i to 19 years old) was 6.0¡¾0.8
the index ranging from 4.4 to 7.5., and the adults (above 20 years old) was 6.8¡¾0.9 and the
index ranging from 4.2 to 8.2.
2. The cranio-sellar index increases gradually with age. The increase of the index was most marked after puberty.
3. There is no sexual difference in cranio-sellar index in infants and children. But, there is a higher index in female than male in adolescents and adults.
